Job Readiness Support in the TTL
In addition to providing computer access and training to San Francisco residents, the Tenderloin Tech Lab also works closely with St. Anthony Foundation's Father Alfred Center, a 13-month drug and alcohol rehabilitation program for men. Working with Eric, our Program Associate, they complete courses on job readiness, online job searching and interviewing and are equipped with a new email address, resume and cover letter. This training serves as a crucial refresher course to today's employment market and prepares these men for what lies ahead.
During his time in the Tech Lab, Jesse (a resident of the Father Alfred Center) expressed his desire to find employment in a natural food store. A United States Army Veteran with a background in publishing, Jesse hoped to switch gears and enter this growing market by any means necessary, from the ground up. As a result of his dedicated job search, we are happy to report that Jesse was recently hired as Supervisor at Whole Foods. Jesse credits the Tech Lab for preparing him to face the rigors of his job search, particularly with improving his interviewing skills.
In choosing to highlight this employment-related success, it is important to note that there are many other forms of "success" that we see on a daily basis: a connection with an old friend or family member on Facebook, the creation of a first email address, a new passage in a poem written on our computers. By providing critical access to the ever-changing world of technology, we are happy to play a role in our guest’s success, in whatever shape that comes in.
