INTERMEDIATE COMPUTER SKILLS

This multi-session course is designed to teach intermediate skills for Windows PCs and Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The topics covered include MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, email/Google platform, file management, keyboard shortcuts, Craigslist, social networking, and Skype.

 

This course runs for the first three weeks of every month, four days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday) from 2:00 PM-3:30 PM. If 8 out of the 12 classes are completed, students will receive a Certificate of Completion.

 

PREREQUISITE: Must have completed a Basic Computer Skills course OR possess basic computer skills and have a working email account. If you're not sure whether or not you are ready to take this course, we have a Pre-ICS Activity that can be taken and assessed.

ICS Class Outline:

During Week 1, students will have a focused curriculum on Google and Microsoft Word. For the first half, students will learn everything they need to know about Gmail, Google Drive including Google Calendar and even Google Maps. During the second half, students will focus on Microsoft Word and go beyond the basics. The topics will include learning how to insert tables, images, text boxes, templates, and more.​

 

Throughout Week 2, students will learn how to save files on the computer, including how to use a Flash Drive as well as how to create documents and save them on Google Drive. Students will also have 3 very in depth lessons on Microsoft Excel. They will learn different formatting tools, simple formulas and functions, as well as how to create charts and maintain a budget within Excel.

In the last week of our ICS Course, students will learn how to use PowerPoint along with some different social media platforms. Some of the PowerPoint skills involve creating slides, adding themes, animations, and transitions, inserting images, videos, audio and more. Lastly, students will learn how to navigate through different Social Media platforms such as Facebook, Skype and Google Hangouts.
